B-boys and B-girls battle it out

If you thought it was hot out in the sun on Australia Day, then you should have been at the Lismore PCYC for Norpas annual Aussie Battlers event the heat was on.

The audience was enthralled by the highly competitive break battles going on. Alstonvilles Groove-Busters took out the under 14 hip hop dance section, Romy (aka Ice Babe) dominated the under 14 Hip Hop dance solos while local Lismore lad Marcus Upton, aka (DJ Marlay), scooped up first prize in the Scratch Battle and was runner up for his hip hop song. Byrons K2 Crew impressed the judges with their hip hop song and won themselves a paid gig at Crankfest Xtreme in July at Casino.

Coordinator Zahra Smith said the whole event had a very friendly, family vibe.

One of the highlights for me was the traditional Bundjalung opening ceremony, and the level of respect for this ancient culture and for contemporary youth culture which I felt strongly throughout the day.
