Lismores Australia Day ambassador Home and Away ac

Lismores Australia Day ambassador Home and Away actor Sam Atwell (pictured with mayor Merv King) looked bemused as he arrived at Lismore City Hall only to behold a rapidly emptying auditorium.

I wrote a speech and everything, he said. I compared Australia to a meat pie. It can be hard and flakey like the desert or soft when you put it in the microwave. Its made up of a mixture of unidentifiable things. Of course Im not talking about Lismore pies. Theres all the different ingredients, like Australia - people who live together.

Sam said his charter flight had taxied around the tarmac at Sydneys airport before the pilot explained one of the engines wasnt working. The pilot called his mate and got another plane to fly us, but we had to go to Bankstown airport.

Never mind. Sam got to spend the day in Lismore, before returning to Sydney on Saturday morning.
