Smooth operetta

These three little maids (l-r) Sheree Boyd, Jacky Claff and Meredith Navin will hit the stage at the Uniting Church in Lismore (corner of Keen and Woodlark streets) this weekend for three performances of The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan.

These performances are the culmination of a weeks intensive preparation by young people under 25 interested in opera. This is the fourth yearly YOWL (Young Opera Workshop Lismore) production of an operetta and is always a fascinating show.

So if you love Gilbert and Sullivan and who doesnt? check out performances this Friday, January 19, at 7pm; and Saturday, January 20, at 1pm and 7pm.

Tickets are $15/10 at the door.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
