Search is on for landcare heroes

Landcarers from across the Northern Rivers region have the chance to be awarded at the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authoritys inaugural Regional Landcare Awards.

There are nine award categories across primary production, education, community, coast and river care, nature conservation and individual landcarers, and each category will be judged by specialists a Landcare representative and at least one NRCMA board member.

All regional winners will automatically go through into the nominations for the State Landcare Awards and the chance to win a national Landcare Australia award.

Board member of the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority, Sally Wright, said they wished to celebrate the enormous achievements of the regional landcaring community.

A few years ago this region was very successful in winning six out of the 10 NSW Landcare Awards, so we are expecting some fantastic projects to come forward, said Sally.

The closing date for nominations is Tuesday, February 6, and entry forms and criteria for each category can be downloaded from the Catchment Management Authority website at

The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 29, in Grafton at a gala dinner that will kick off the Regional Landcare Farming Forum.

Held at the South Grafton Ex-Servicemens Club from March 29-31, the forum will provide opportunities to share information and ideas, and guest speakers will discuss a range of topics from carbon trading to biological farming.
