Happy feet helps save whales

A special screening of the animated comedy adventure Happy Feet will be held at Byron Cinemas next Thursday, January 18, to raise funds for Southern Cross Universitys Whale Research Centre.

The screening will include a question and answer session with Howard and Rosy Whelan, of Whelan Productions, who co-ordinated much of the photographic work for the film.

Howards Antarctic photography was used to inspire the early storyboards prior to Whelan Productions leading film expeditions to Antarctic to capture the images that formed the basis for much of the animation.

An exhibition of the photography is currently on display at Byron Cinemas and a short film of these images set to music is screening exclusively at all of the cinemas Happy Feet sessions.

The reason we picked the Southern Cross University Whale Research Centre is because there is such a real connection between the whales that pass Byron Bay and Antarctica, said Rosy Whelan. And Happy Feet certainly has some very powerful environmental messages.

The screening of Happy Feet starts at 6.30pm, next Thursday. Tickets are $12.50/10 and are on sale now at Byron Cinemas.
