NSW Coalition to restore funding for Community Colleges

I recently had the opportunity to reaffirm the NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalitions commitment to more than double current funding for Community Colleges, if elected to government in March 2007.

The current Labor Government has halved funding for Community Colleges over the last four years to just $4.3 million this financial year. A Liberal/Nationals Coalition Government would restore Community Colleges 2002 03 funding level of $10.3 million a year through incremental increases of $2 million per year between 2007/08 and 2009/10.

Community Colleges are an important part of the education system in this state. They are an efficient, low-cost community general education provider that offer friendly, local, flexible and broad-based short course options.

There are 63 Community Colleges in NSW that help around 400,000 people. However under the NSW Labor Government the sector has been treated very poorly through successive funding cuts.

The NSW Coalition is committed to strengthening lifelong learning opportunities for NSW residents and supporting our vital Community Colleges.

Final column

This will be the final column for 2006 and the last before the NSW election on March 24 2007.

I have appreciated the opportunity to keep Northern Rivers Echo readers informed about issues that are important within the Ballina electorate.

With the election just three months away, it is important to ensure your correct name and address are listed on the Electoral Roll. Forms to update your details are available from my office.

I look forward to the opportunity to continue to represent the residents of the Ballina electorate in the NSW Parliament.

Seasons Greetings

Christmas is a time for family, friends and spiritual reflection. I would like to wish all Northern Rivers Echo readers a safe holiday and may the New Year bring good health and happiness.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
