Cool runnings

After another wildly successful year as a distance runner, Ashlea Gilfillan (pictured) has decided to accept a scholarship to study at Tulsa University in Oklahoma in the United States next year. The small private universitys offer was one of many for Ashlea, who won this years Under 20 Australian National Cross Country Championships in August.

Ashlea decided that Tulsa was the right place for her due to its reputation for producing top quality distance runners and the fact that its a Division 1 competing school. The scholarship is worth US$31,000 and will allow her to do plenty of track work while studying education and psychology.

Ashleas not the only Gilfillan whose been having a good season in her running shoes, with sister Courtney and mother Karen dominating the Australian Duathlon Championships in Melbourne recently, coming first and third respectively. Meanwhile, younger sister Jessica (Under 14) blitzed the field in the Australian National Cross Country Championships during the year to keep the Gilfillan trophy cabinet bursting at the seams.
