Hearing stories

Local storyteller and singer songwriter Jenni Cargill-Strong has just released her second CD The Mermaids Shoes. This is a great gift for the kids though the parents and older people will like it too with stories that are not scary but magically interesting. The title story is about Byron and a mermaid who is so enchanted by the full moon drums (thats Byron) that she swaps her tail for legs (I think I know her!).

Jennis last CD Wonder Tales of Earthand Sea won a National Library of Australia award in 1999.

The new album begins and ends with songs Jenni wrote. Rochelle Wright (Dolphin Award winner) plays tabla, cavaquinho (?) and guitar on the album and co-wrote the melody of the last song Stories to Light the Dark with Jenni.

Jenni will be performing at Woodford Folk Festival (December 27-January 1).

To order the CD phone 6684 6548 or write to PO Box 1182, Mullumbimby, NSW, 2482. Or email her via her website at

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
