New direction

With Kevin Rudd as leader and Julia Gillard as deputy leader, Federal Labor has a fresh new direction. I wholeheartedly welcome and support the new Federal Labor leadership team of Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard. Kevin and Julia bring a mix of enthusiasm, energy and experience to the leadership roles. I also wish to thank Kim Beazley for his unwavering dedication to the Australian people and commend him for his 26 years of public service.

Our nation truly is at a fork in the road as Kevin Rudd said in his first statement as leader of the Federal Labor team. At the next election there is a clear choice for our nation. Choose between John Howards extreme industrial relations laws or Kevin Rudds fairness in the workplace and beyond.

It is a choice between Howards big business focus and Kevin Rudds support of working families. A choice between John Howards nuclear reactors and Labors renewable energy.

I believe that it is so important for the Australian people that a Federal Labor Government is elected next year and that Kevin Rudd will be Prime Minister of our great nation.

Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard are getting on with the task of giving Australians a progressive alternative to John Howard. In the weeks and months to come I look forward to sharing the new direction of the Federal Labor Party with you.

Christmas message

My husband Craig and I warmly wish you and your family a wonderful festive season.

During this holiday time, when more people are on the roads, please take extra care. Our safety and the safety of our children rests with each and every one of us.

I want to thank all the police and emergency service personnel for their great work throughout the year and over this busy holiday time.

Christmas is that special time when families, friends, neighbours and communities get together to celebrate and to share the spirit of giving and sharing.

I want to pay tribute to all those individuals and charities who do so much to bring Christmas cheer and care to those in need. As a community we have shown we can achieve great things when we work together.

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
