Writers fest moves ahead to avoid Splendour

Jeni Caffins first day in the Byron Bay Writers Festival directors chair was a little bumpy, with Jeni discovering that Splendour in the Grass organisers had moved their event to the first week of August the spot held by the Writers Festival for the last 10 years.

Thinking it would put too much pressure on the town if the events were held at the same time, Jeni scrambled, making countless phone calls to ensure they could move the Writers Fest one week forward.

It will now be held on the last weekend in July (July 26-29) with workshops commencing on July 23.

Jeni said they did not change the dates lightly, and wanted to get the word out quick, as she knows people plan for the event, and the date change may affect local residents.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
