Queensland Ambulance rebates for pensioners

The NSW Labor Government recently announced NSW pensioners would be eligible for a rebate if using the Queensland Ambulance service. This follows many pensioners, particularly those living close to the Queensland border, being slugged more than $860 for the use of the Queensland Ambulance Service after a reciprocal agreement between the two states broke down.

From now on, pensioners who receive an ambulance bill from the Queensland Ambulance Service should send it to the NSW Ambulance Service along with their pensioner details and the bill will be paid by the NSW Government.

NSW pensioners who received an invoice from the Queensland Ambulance Service during the period the reciprocal agreement was not in place (From July 1 to November 1, 2006) are advised to have it paid by obtaining an exemption form from my office or the Ambulance Service of NSW.

Alstonville Wollongbar Rural Fire Brigade

I had the pleasure of being involved in the opening of the Alstonville Wollongbar Rural Fire Brigades new training and storage facilities on Saturday. It was wonderful to see the community supporting such an important organisation, with financial support from community members and Ballina Shire Council.

I congratulate all volunteers who dedicate their time to the Alstonville Wollongbar Rural Fire Brigade, especially the large number of young volunteers. I also thank all other members of the Rural Fire Service, for without the volunteers, the RFS would not be possible. Your efforts are invaluable and I congratulate you for being a part of the RFS, the worlds largest fire service, which boasts more than 70,000 volunteer members.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
