The Quiksilver Australian Grommet Titles get underway on the coast between Ballina and Lennox Head this Saturday, November 25, and runs through to next Saturday, December 2. The annual international surfing event unleashes the next wave of Australian surfing stars who thrive in the consistent beach-breaks of the North Coast. Nearly 200 aspiring professional surfers will compete for one of the 10 Australian titles on offer.
The Under 18s and Under 16s events, along with six national school titles, will be decided from a qualifying field representing all states of Australia.
Adding to the already high stakes is the automatic inclusion of the victorious surfers in the Under 18 boys, Under 18 girls and Under 16 boys into the 2007 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships in Portugal next May.
The main contest site is North Wall in Ballina but the tournament does have the option of going north to Lennox Head, depending on where the surf is best.
