Movie child

Young love is a tough learning curve. Bruno (Jeremie Renier) and his girlfriend Sonia (Deborah Francois) live in an east Belgian city. Theyre poor and very young. They have a child but all is not well. Bruno is not a responsible person and not a caring dad. He sells the kid for money! (Yep. Thats uncaring.)

The Child is a film about growing up. And parenthood is the great catalyst for maturation in this film by Belgian filmmakers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardennes which won the Golden Palm award at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

It is a story of redemption and forgiveness set amongst the harsh realities of the modern world. Its a story about the power of young love. And the magic of parenthood.

The Child is the latest in the NORPA independent movie series and screens at the Star Court Theatre next Thursday, November 30, at 2pm and 7pm; next Friday, December 1, at 7pm; and on Saturday, December 2, at 2pm.

Tickets are $10/8 at the door.
