Farmers and residents concerned about the rapid expansion of the coal seam gas industry will be holding a good old-fashioned protest rally through the streets of Lismore on Saturday, March 19.
Organisers say CSG mining poses a threat to ground water and underground aquifers and that it’s not too late to stop the industry’s expansion in the Northern Rivers.
“The basic problem we have is that CSG mining is being given the green light and government concessions to conduct ‘quick and dirty’ mining activities – using millions of litres of water and then producing millions of litres of waste,” said Keerrong resident Ian Gaillard.
The rally will begin at the corner of Conway and Carrington Streets (opposite the Post Office) at 10am.
