Susannah French with her daughters Willow (nearly one) and Skyla Davis, 5, and the Wot Wots who visited Lismore Preschool last week.
Thanks to the artistic talents of five-year-old Skyla Davis from East Lismore, the kids at Lismore Preschool got a very special visit last week from two colourful, hovercraft-flying stars of children’s television.
Skyla won a national competition through ABC For Kids that boasted a grand prize most five-year-olds would not even dream to wish for – a personal visit from DottyWot and SpottyWot, the stars of children’s TV show, The WotWots.
The furry pink and blue creatures and their handlers turned up at Lismore Preschool last Thursday to cries of wonder and chuckles of barely contained excitement from the starstruck youngsters.
“The children really enjoyed the show – it was pretty amazing to have them here,” preschool director Alex Hughes said. “It quite funny because normally they watch the WotWots on TV, so they have these absolutely amazing expressions when they see them live. It’s like running into your teacher at Woolies – you’re seeing something in a very different way. You get these looks of total amazement from the children because they can hardly believe the WotWots exist in any other way.”
Skyla’s mum Susannah French and Skyla’s younger sister Willow came along for the event.
“I didn’t even tell the preschool when Skyla entered the competition – I thought what are the chances of winning in an Australia-wide competition,” laughed Susannah. “I was pretty shocked when she won, really amazed. Then I had to ring the preschool and tell them we’d won a competition I hadn’t told them about!
“Skyla is incredibly shy but she told me she was really glad to win a prize all her friends could enjoy. When you looked at their faces you realised how exciting it was for them. It really made their day.”
