Students dressed in traditional costumes for Indonesian Day.
The students at Eltham Public School recently opened their doors for Indonesian Day, with 230 students joining in cultural activities including music, literary activities, art and games.
School principal Lyndi Hauenstein said more than $200 was raised for the SOS orphanage in Bali.
“The Eltham P&C cooked a delicious Indonesian lunch box. The box contained traditional Indonesian food including a satay stick, nasi goreng (fried rice), lumpia (spring roll) and salad,” Ms Hauenstein said. “Feedback from students was that they enjoyed the activities, the food and learnt some Indonesian language.”
Ms Hauenstein said Eltham School had received a $2000 grant from Access Asia, which helped provide an interactive whiteboard, additional Indonesian teaching staff and curriculum development. The senior students also put together a DVD spoken entirely in Indonesian.
