Cup runneth over for Turf Club

Horses jumping out of the stalls in the Lismore Cup on Thursday, September 23, will be competing not just for $50,000 in prize money, but for a very special trophy as well.

Wallace Bishop Jewellers in Lismore have donated a spectacular handcrafted trophy valued at $10,500 for the event which is hand engraved and gold plated with 18-carat yellow gold and set onto a rosewood finish plinth.

“It is very exciting for the club to be offering such a unique trophy – it’s beautifully finished, the best Cup I’ve ever seen,” Lismore Turf Club chairman Ron Marriott said. “It is rare that a trophy of this class and value is offered in country racing and we are very appreciative to the Wallace Bishop company for their tremendous support. We hope that this trophy will help attract the best stayers in northern NSW and southern Queensland to put on the best race possible.”

The Lismore Cup is on Thursday, September 23, with gates opening at 11am. It’s an eight-race event, with the first horses competing at 1pm.

Entry is $20 and once again, the Lismore Cup is strictly for people 18 years and over. Free shuttle buses will run from the John Crowther carpark to the Lismore Turf Club via Trevan Ford and Spinks Park from 12pm. A return shuttle will begin operating from 4.30pm.
