Reward for judo's next generation

Five young judo exponents were presented with certificates from the NSW Government for their efforts at the 2010 National Judo Championships in Brisbane.

At the award presentation were (l-r) sensei Allan Foley, Daniel Parry, Levi Wilmoth, Cameron Blewett, Lismore MP Thomas George and Jaydha Wilmoth.

Last week Lismore MP Thomas George presented five young local judo exponents with certificates from the NSW Government for their efforts at the recent 2010 National Judo Championships in Brisbane.

Premier’s Awards were presented to Cameron Blewett, Daniel Parry, Jaydha Wilmoth and her brother Levi. Unfortunately, Bianca Phillips was unable to attend.

Levi secured second at his first Australian titles while his sister Jaydha placed third overall and Bianca placed second in her event. It was bad luck for Cameron, who was injured in the lead-up and was unable to train for the titles, but still finished fifth in his division.

Daniel fought the eventual winner in his first fight and despite a loss in that game, he came back strongly to place third overall.

“We now have three aiming for the Australian team next year, and hopefully Daniel will be heading off to fight in Japan also next year,” sensei Allan Foley said. “But for now, we’re looking toward the first selection tournament in Sydney later this year, and then the NSW and Victorian Opens.”
