Niagara (pictured) is an internationally renowned pop-art painter from Detroit who sang in Destroy All Monsters and Dark Carnival with the late Ron Asheton (ex Stooges guitarist).
But she rarely sets foot on a stage these days. The last time was in Sydney in February, 2008, when she and the Hitmen recorded a live album, St Valentine’s Day Massacre. It was a huge gig.
Niagara and the Hitmen will play the Northern in Byron this Saturday, April 10.
Her music takes second place to her art these days because her art fetches thousands of dollars. It’s bright and confronting images of dominant women with guns, knives, booze and pills – all very appropriate as she does come from Murder City, aka Detroit.
This tour is pretty special as Niagara has done just two live shows in 15 years (the other was in Japan). The Sydney gig drew fans from all over the country as well as overseas.
Hazel Eyes & the Devil and The Jim Rockfords will support.
Gig starts at 9pm. Tickets are $25 from the venue ( www.thenorthern.com.au).
