Christine Porter
Barratt Galleries in Alstonville is currently showing two exhibitions.
Narrative by Christine Porter consists of her small colour etchings, some of which were inspired by her overseas travels. This exhibition is the official launch of the Narrative Project – a questioning of the hierarchical position of the artist as the most important curator of his or her work. What’s the audience’s role?
Liz Powell’s exhibition is called Armchair Travel.
It deals as much with journeys of the imagination as it does with the physicality of travel. An armchair traveller plays with the idea of travel rather than actually doing it.
The reality of leaving the comfort zone – the known – and getting out to experience the world is the other side of the armchair traveller’s coin. We all have to take that step out of our heads sometime.
The exhibitions run until the end of the month.
