Dave Stringer (pictured) is a leader of the new American kirtan movement. Kirtan (from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘to sing’) is an East Indian form of mantra chanting that’s become popular as a participatory music experience at festivals around the world.
As Dave says, “You’re not just listening to the music, you are the music.”
Dave’s sound marries the transcendent mysticism of traditional Indian instruments with the exuberant, groove-oriented sound of American gospel.
Dave Stringer will perform at the Byron Community Centre next Thursday, March 18, from 7.30pm.
Tickets are $25 from the venue (6685 6807).
