A police diver heads for the water during a massive police and SES search at Dairyville west of Coffs Harbour following the discovery of a man's torso in a creek.
POLICE are still trying to identify the human remains found at Dairyville near Coffs Harbour earlier this month.
The lower half of a man’s body was found by a shocked dad and his three kids when they went for an afternoon swim at Wayper Creek on November 1.
The other half of the body still hasn’t turned up despite an extensive search of the area by police and the SES.
Coffs/Clarence crime manager, Detective Inspector Cameron Lindsay, said yesterday a bone found at Dairyville last week turned out to be an animal bone.
“We’re still awaiting results of forensic examinations of body parts and on other items found in the area,” Mr Lindsay said.
“These forensic examinations are primarily focused on identifying the body.”
Police believe the man may have been camping in the area and they’ve sent off camping gear and other personal items found at the scene for testing.
“Detectives are continuing with their inquiries and are following a few lines of inquiry,” Mr Lindsay said.
“We are still exploring missing person’s reports and are speaking to friends and family of missing persons.”
