Viral for Doctor Who
DAVE Heggie dreams of the day iconic television show Doctor Who comes to the Northern Rivers to film an episode.
"Can you imagine the doctor at Bluesfest or in traffic trying to get into Byron Bay, or even turning up at the Aquarius Festival in Nimbin," he said.
"He'd love some of the things we've got around here."
The life-long Doctor Who fan wants people to send him reasons why they believe an episode of the show should be filmed in the region.
He will send people's responses to the show's producers in hope of persuading them.
"What really spurred me was the last episode of the series was filmed in New York," he said. "I thought, 'Hang on, Americans have no idea who Dr Who is but Australians love it'.
"Why not try to get them over here? If it doesn't work, we will still have lifted the profile of the region."
The Lennox Head resident will inform people about the campaign through Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Summerland NSW tourism website and an email list with 2200 people on it.
A fortnight ago, he made a video which featured a blue time machine, identical to the time machine in Doctor Who, floating over several iconic Northern Rivers destinations.
"I've posted the video on a whole heap of social media sites and am getting a lot of feedback from around the world," he said.
Mr Heggie has been fascinated with Doctor Who since childhood.
"As a kid I used to hide behind the lounge and I'd still peek over the top to see what was happening," he recalled.
"The special effects were so obviously special effects but it didn't matter.
"The Doctor himself is a really good figure who tries to do good things and always comes back to earth to help humans."
