That was then: this is now
NOW and Then is a photography project being run by ABC Open.
People are being asked to find a historical image and rephotograph it in the same location.
This image (right) was provided by the Johnson family of Clunes and rephotographed by ABC Open producer Catherine Marciniak.
"During the first round of Now and Then I did a workshop with the Johnson family where they opened their family archive and we did a whole series of images about how the family came to Clunes, and an audio slideshow that tells the story of the garage," Catherine said.
"I have done these in Lismore, Murwillumbah and Grafton and I can't walk those streets now without thinking about those stories and seeing those images from the past."
A second series is being launched and a free workshop will be held at Lismore Library on Saturday, May 12, from 9.30am-4.30pm.
Catherine said participants would learn "a bit about writing, a lot about their digital camera, how to share photos online - and they'll get to see a whole window into our community's past".
The best images from the project will be exhibited at the Museum of Sydney.
Catherine said there would also be an opportunity to exhibit locally.
Places are limited and bookings are essential.
