Telstra CEO receives payrise

TELSTRA has confirmed it will close its Goonellabah call centre on October 23 with the loss of 116 jobs.

Meanwhile Telstra CEO David Thodey will have an extra $247,000 added to his salary. His salary package is currently worth $7.69 million according to Page MP Janelle Saffin.

"In fact, Telstra has found more than $7 million to increase the pay of its top nine executives in the past 12 months," Ms Saffin said. "No wonder so many people are outraged at this corporate heartlessness."

An information forum will offer a range of federal and state support services to affected Telstra staff at the Goonellabah call centre today (Thursday, September 13).

Agencies represented include Building Australia's Future Workforce, Job Services Australia providers, Centrelink, NSW Trade and Investment, State Training Services, Legal Aid and financial advisory services.

The forum will run at the Call Centre from 11am to 4pm.
