Splendour returns to Byron

ORGANISERS of Splendour In The Grass have this morning announced they are planning to bring the event back to Byron Bay this year.

The event has been held at Woodfordia in Queensland for the past two years.

Splendour co-producer, Jessica Ducrou, said they were "currently working on" bringing the music and arts festival back to where it started, at Belongil Fields.

The dates for the 2012 event are July 27, 28 and 29.

"Despite great efforts to have the festival at North Byron Parklands this year, we are yet to have a determination on the application," she said.

"In the meantime and after much consideration we are excited at the prospect of returning to the birth place of Splendour."

Byron Shire Mayor Jan Barham welcomed the news.

"Splendour's home is Byron Bay and there is defined benefit that the festival delivers to the area, especially in winter, so it is a welcome return," she said.
