Scooter injures women

TWO Ballina women were seriously injured after being hit from behind by a motorised scooter in Cherry St, Ballina, last Saturday.

The incident happened at 7.15am.

The two women, aged 66 and 80, were walking on the footpath outside the Uniting Church when a female driving a motorised scooter struck them from behind.

The two women were taken by ambulance to Ballina hospital and later transferred to Lismore Base Hospital with multiple injuries.

The 66-year-old woman received multiple fractures to both legs and underwent emergency surgery in Lismore Base Hospital and is expected to be in hospital for a number of weeks.

The 80-year-old woman received head injuries and a fractured arm and was transferred to Lismore Base Hospital for further treatment.

Police are investigating.
