Police officer faces firearms and misconduct charges

A POLICE officer will face Tweed Heads Local Court court next year charged with misconduct and firearm offences.

A 48-year-old sergeant, attached to a local area command within the Northern Region, was served a Future Court Attendance Notice today.

He will face charges of misconduct in public office; aiding and abetting possession of an unauthorised pistol and allowing an unauthorised person to possess a pistol.

He is due to appear before the magistrate on January 14.

Police will allege the incident occurred while the officer was on duty in 2011.

The notice was served at the culmination of an investigation by the Professional Standards Command.
