Police call for calm in Hells Angels network

RIVAL bikie tensions are not believed to be behind the daylight murder of a high-ranking Hells Angels member in Sydney, police have said.

Zeljko Mitrovic, 45, was seen arguing with three men in front of his Wetherill Park business before he was followed inside and shot dead on Tuesday afternoon.

An employee was caught in the crossfire but was not seriously injured.

During his time as a senior Hells Angel, Mr Mitrovic fronted court on murder charges and was close friends with former bikie boss Derek Wainhou, who was at the centre of a fatal bashing at Sydney Airport three years ago.

He had three children, aged under 13 with his wife whose brother, a senior member of the Bandinos bikie gang, was killed in the 80s.

Detectives have vowed to examine his recent and long-term history with the club and his business.

NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter called for calm in the Hells Angels network.

He also assured the public detectives were certain it was a targeted job.

"An argument is one thing but escalating it the point of the production of a firearm, firing him and shooting someone dead is obviously of significant concern," Ast Com Cotter said

"(But) this was the person they came to speak to, this was the person they came to argue with and ultimately, it's cost him his life."
