THE Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra will welcome a guest conductor Nathan Aspinall for the November concert Banquet of Brahms and Beethoven.

The University of Queensland bachelor of music graduate is currently a conductor-in-training for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

The concert Banquet of Brahms and Beethoven will feature the Brahms' Tragic Overture and Variation on a Theme by Haydn, and Beethoven's Symphony no 2.

"It is a great program and I look forward to it," he said.

A NRSO spokesman said the orchestra was excited to have Mr Aspinall onboard.

"The NRSO is proud and honoured to welcome Nathan Aspinall as our guest conductor for the last concert of 2012," he said.

Mr Aspinall said he had always been curious about conducting.

The flame started to burn when he began playing piano at five, then trumpet at nine and eventually French horn at 16.

"When I did finally conduct my school orchestra for the first time I loved it," he said.

"I knew then that this is what I wanted to do."

Being a conductor is more than beating time, it is about shaping the music.

"I like to have a greater vision for how the whole piece will sound," he said.

Mr Aspinall recently returned from a trip to the United States where he attended the Aspen Music Festival.

He, and 13 other young conductors, gathered to rehearse and learn alongside world renowned maestros.

Don't miss out on a chance to see one of Australia's emerging conductors.

Due to ill health founder and musical director of NRSO Barry Singh will be unable to conduct.
