INNOVATIVE employment group Nortec has presented more than 1000 clients with a new lease on life by finding them work.
Over the last three years, Nortec has run a campaign to place 1000 unemployed people in jobs within 100 days and, this year, the company has reached its goal with nine days to spare.
Nortec marketing coordinator Michelle Dowding said the company's staff was quite surprised to achieve its aim in the time set as the economy still made reaching the goal an uphill battle.
"Following the global financial crisis (GFC) there was a lot of fear out there.
"The results of '1000 jobs in 100 days' have shown that some of the employer confidence lost during the GFC has been regained," Ms Dowding said.
Most of the jobs were found in the hospitality industry with the retail sector providing the second largest number of jobs.
Administration was the third largest area where clients found a job and thecommunity services sector showed strong growth and offered the fourth highest number of unemployed people a job.
Traditional trades and labour were fifth on the list with a number of public works such as road works offering unemployed with skills and strength jobs in the Tweed.
For the jobs to be counted in the campaign, clients needed to be employed for at least three months although many were for the longer term, Ms Dowding said.
Clients came from a variety of backgrounds and were of different ages, however, young people and older people were well represented.
"The demand for older employees is growing as employers start to realise, the loyalty, abilities and work ethic of older employees is better than that of younger people," Ms Dowding said.
Nortec's achievement means the company will now focus on beating last year's result when it placed 1167 unemployed in work.
Nortec's successful campaign became the accepted template for similar campaigns around the country with employement agencies in Western Australia, Tasmania and Canberra running comparable campaigns in their regions.
