No deal on Southern Kings
THE South Africa Rugby Union and the Southern Kings have denied a financial deal has been done that will delay their entry into the Super Rugby competition.
The Kings were due to join in place of the Lions next year, but according to newspaper reports in the Republic, they have agreed to wait until 2016 in return for $A4.8 million from the SARU.
It was reported the Kings have been persuaded to wait a further three years, by which stage a new broadcast rights deal will have been brokered.
The SARU hope that would allow for an expansion of the competition, removing the need for one of the existing South African sides to make way for the Kings.
SARU has dismissed the reports, stressing that negotiations surrounding the 2013 Super Rugby participation were "ongoing".
