Disability insurance scheme rally
PEOPLE who are born with, or acquire, a disability will be better cared for when a National Disability Insurance Scheme, announced by Prime Minister Julia Gillard this week, kicks in.
However, the scheme, likely to cost more than $10 billion a year, is not yet guaranteed. Northern Rivers residents are urged to attend a rally in Lismore on May 10, to highlight the region's support for the NDIS to be implemented. Currently there's no entitlement to support people who acquire a disability through injury, accident or illness.
The rally will be held at Spinks Park, Lismore, on Thursday, May 10 at 11am.
Following a short march, a free barbecue will be held in the park.
