GETTING About is a new project coordinated by Lismore City Council and ACE Community Colleges, to enable 10 local Aboriginal people to get a licence to drive a bus, and around 20 learners to get their P-plates.

Funded by Transport for NSW and auspiced by Council, the program will happen over the next 12 months through ACE - recognised as providing the best Aboriginal driver training in NSW.

Information days will soon be held in Lismore, Ballina, Box Ridge, Muli Muli, Casino, Kyogle and Cabbage Tree Island.

ACE Outreach Program Manager Jan Levy said having Aboriginal bus drivers providing transport will allow people to travel more safely.

"If you have a bus licence you're there for your whole community," she said.

For more information phone Jan on 6621 6777 or 0429 423 116.
