Keep property secure

HAVING your property stolen is a gut-wrenching feeling.

But Clarence Valley residents may not have to feel what it is like to have their valuables stolen if they participate in the Home Secure Pilot Project being rolled out by Clarence Valley council.

Clarence Valley libraries have 10 Property Marking Kits available for loan as part of the project.

Each kit contains a hand-held engraver and guidelines for marking and keeping records of personal property.

The guidelines include information on creating a unique code which is identifiable only to you and keeping records of valuables that are unable to be engraved. Kits will be available to library members for periods of three weeks.

Mayor Richie Williamson is encouraging residents to borrow or reserve an engraving kit.

"This project is a great example of council working with police and the community to make property in the Clarence Valley more secure," he said.

NSW Police recommend marking your property to deter thieves and increase the likelihood of lost or stolen items being returned to their owners.

If you're not a library member, join now by visiting your local branch in Grafton, Maclean, Yamba or Iluka or go online to www.crl.nsw.gov.au.

Engraving kits can also be borrowed through the Mobile Library which visits Cowper, Ulmarra, Tucabia, Rathgar Lodge, Swan Creek, Coutts Crossing, Nymboida, Copmanhurst, Eatonsville, Waterview Heights, Lawrence, Baryulgil, Coaldale, Woodford Dale, Brooms Head, Gulmarrad, Wooli, Minnie Water, Pillar Valley, Glenreagh, Lanitza and Halfway Creek.
