Job market for Telstra workers

FOLLOWING the announcement that it is closing its Goonellabah call centre with the loss of 116 jobs, Telstra is sponsoring a jobs market at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre on Friday, October 19.

Employers from around the region are invited to be a part of the jobs market which will be open to the former Telstra workers in the morning and to all job seekers in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, a survey conducted by the Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC) has found that 54% of respondents were considering moving to other service providers as a result of Telstra's decision, and 21% indicated they had already ended their relationship with the company.

"Thirty-seven per cent of respondents indicated they would like to change providers but believed there was no viable alternative that can give the same level of service/coverage in the region.

"A further 27% reported being locked into Telstra contracts," NRSDC acting CEO Brett Paradise said.
