Disabled speaker inspires students
KALKIE school students had a life-changing encounter this week when inspirational speaker John Coutis paid them a visit.
Mr Coutis, who was born with a disability that rendered his legs useless, spoke to students from years 4 to 7 at the school, thanks to Coral Coast Pharmacies, which put up the funding for the event.
Pharmacy spokeswoman Mandy Finch said Mr Coutis told the students about his life and how difficult it was growing up with his disability, and the obstacles he faced along the way.
"This was a fantastic experience for the students to learn about the negatives of life that people with disabilities have, but more importantly the advantages and positives that can come along with that journey as well," she said.
"John's motto of 'if I can, you can' really hit home with some students and they had loads of interesting questions for John.
"Coral Coast Pharmacies are proud to have been able to provide the financial support that allowed Kalkie State School to have John as their guest speaker."
