Council explores carbon tax impact

AT THEIR meeting last Tuesday, Lismore City councillors were told the carbon tax will impact councils as producers of emissions, through the operation of landfills; and as consumers, through electricity consumption - street lighting, council buildings, water and sewerage operations and swimming pools.

Other council costs most affected are likely to be those related to construction - steel, bitumen, concrete and timber.

Council voted for a motion proposed by Cr Simon Clough, for the council staff to prepare a briefing on these impacts on its environmental and financial positions.
