Blessed are the extensions…
THE new extension to St Joseph's Nursing Home in Lismore was officially opened by Page MP Janelle Saffin on Wednesday. Then the Most Reverend Geoffrey Jarrett, Bishop of Lismore, blessed the new facilities. Time then for tea and cake.
Ms Saffin reckons the $4.4 million interest-free loan that the Federal Government created for the extensions shows the way for governments to support infrastructure development. She said state governments were also adopting this policy.
"It's wonderful because now there are 20 new single rooms with ensuites. The money can be repaid over the next 10 years," she said.
CEO of St Vincent's Hospital and St Joseph's Nursing Home Bob Walsh told The Echo that the extension, which takes the total number of rooms at the nursing home to 80, provides state-of-the-art aged-care facilities.
"It's a secure environment for those suffering dementia," Mr Walsh said, "but without being enclosed."
