POLICE have charged a man following an alleged attempted armed robbery at Tweed Heads and he will appear in court today.

About 3pm Thursday, a 26-year-old man allegedly entered the loading dock of a Woolworths supermarket at the intersection of Wharf and Bay Sts and confronted two staff members.

Police allegedly produced a replica pistol and demanded cash.

The employees spoke with the man for a short time before he left the area and was seen to get into a small yellow sedan.

About 4.30pm on Thursday, police located a man with the sedan in Fraser Dr, Tweed Heads South and after a search found a replica pistol.

He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, assaulting an officer in the execution of duty and two other charges in relation to the arrest.

He was due in Tweed Heads Local Court today.
