A whole lotta holy
With kirtan (the chanting of sacred names, carrying the audience into a state of heightened awareness) apparently sweeping the world, now's the time to have a peek.
Shantala is a duo made up of Benjy and Heather Wertheimer. They specialize in soul-stirring vocals, sacred lyrics and exotic instrumentation.
Which is a whole lot of holy.
Heather's vocals accompany Benjy's everything-else: tabla, congas, percussion, esraj, guitar, and keyboards. He studied Indian classical music for over 25 years with some of the great masters and his CD Circle of Fire went to #1 on the New Age radio charts in 2002.
Supported by local kirtan group Lucknow Sankirtan they play the Byron Community Centre this Friday, November 30, from 7pm.
Tickets are $25 pre at www.kupromotions.com.au or $30 at the door.
