A show for all ages
TODAY the Alstonville Showgrounds were packed with fair-goers from all generations, enjoying what the famous agricultural show had to offer.
It was a special seniors and pensioners day at the only ag show in Ballina Shire, with a reduced entry price of $5 for those in this group, and the day's entertainment was targeted to the older age bracket.
Jim and Hazel Rogers, of Gentleman Jim & Hazel, were up on the Apex Pavilion stage doing what they do best: entertaining.
The pair performs often around the region, at retirement villages and nursing homes, executing a finely-tuned repertoire of old time music.
"The music brings back memories," said Jim.
"It's the music these people all know from the past.
"It's marvellous to see effect it has on the old and sick people."
But the day wasn't only for the well-aged.
Hordes of students from local schools St Josephs Primary School and Alstonville Primary School were taking in the sights, spending part of the morning enthralled in the Reptile Awareness Display of Australia presented by Allan Burnett.
Many of the students had entries in the pavilion exhibitions, from artworks to cooking, and a group of students from St Josephs were to take the stage later in the day armed with some percussion instruments.
The sight of the kids and the older generations enjoying themselves as much as each other proved that there's truly something for everyone this year at the show.
