Cocaine cop to be discharged
A SENIOR NSW police officer who tested positive to drugs will be discharged from the police force this month.
Detective Inspector Shane Diehm, who had been second in command of the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command, had already been suspended from duty due to a separate Professional Standards Command investigation after recording a positive drug test.
The Police Standards Command investigation is yet to be finalised.
Insp Diehm is due to be discharged from the police force on November 8.
Insp Diehm was suspended from his high-ranking role in August last year, after he tested positive to cocaine.
The drug test followed a party Insp Diehm attended in Sydney with a group of fellow officers on August 5, last year.
He was tested the following day and traces of cocaine were detected.
An Australian Federal Police officer and another police officer from the Northern Region were also investigated for using cocaine at the function.
That officer remains suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Before Insp Diehm was promoted to second in charge of the Tweed-Byron command, he was a duty officer at Byron Bay and a detective in the Richmond Local Area Command, where he served as the lead officer investigating the murder of German backpacker Simone Strobel.
Insp Diehm has not returned calls from The Northern Star about his discharge.
